ÖRDÖGÁROK

Ördögarok is one of the finest vineyards in the Villány Wine Region. The 60-hectare fire pit offers visitors a beautiful panorama.

In the 1970s, it was skipped from viticulture, as the area could not be cultivated on a large scale. The largest reclamation program of the past decade was implemented here in the early 2000s. Six Villány winemakers saw the opportunity and the work began under the leadership of Zoltán Günzer. According to calculations, the earthmoving machines working for half a year moved more than 1,000,000 m3 of earth in order to achieve the final result.

The area is a huge valley opening to the south. The warm, high-humidity air gets stuck in the valley, which is why a very unique microclimate develops. The temperature here is 3-5 degrees Celsius higher than the average in Vilny areas. The Ördögárok is based on limestone, with some loess and red clay content. The soil is divided in the vertical direction, so soil layers with different compositions can be observed. High-quality grapes can be grown on very steep (20-25%) slopes in places. It is no coincidence that the top category of winemakers with territory in Ördögárok comes from here. The winery has 5.6 hectares of its own plantation here.
